Unit 5 - Audio

In this sector we are tasked with learning the ins and outs of audio and ADR manipulation, we started this sector out by doing audiobooks, whitch is an easy gateway to the first steps of audio work, then afterwards tasked with a harder task of recording are own audio with different mics at different distances and different places, and lastly doing acutal ADR & fooley on a given scene.

AudioBook - Recreation

In this unit we are tasked with researching, planning and creating are own audiobooks

for this unit, I have chosen to do it by myself as I have prior experience in doing audiobook style content for old videos. The main thing to get right on this was sound effects, as they enhance the audio book and make what your hearing sound more alive than someone reading, it's also key to make the characters your reading sound alive by giving them character and voices. Because ii id it by myself at my own house, i have no behind the scenes content

Shoot plan

this is the plan of the shoot, where it is being done and how It'll be done with equipment

Original Deconstruction of an audiobook

This is my own audio analyst, for this i choose a more orthodox one to analyst, one i have experienced with as I grew up with it myself

Sound plan

This is the sound plan of how everything will be found and where itll be placed in a linear sense

Deconstruction of an audiobook

This was our first audio-based product we analyzed, it was a more unorthodox book as its a subversion on the usual childresn book

Deconstruction of an audiobook (2)

This is the second one we did as a class; we were given a small snippet of an audiobook to listen to one and get down as much as we could about it

AudioBook -
Finished product

I made these quickly in photoshop for an intro and outro segment

not much to say about these as they arent that good.

Images of the book i scanned

Custom intro and outro images I made

i had a friend scan these photos as the ones online were very low quality, these added to the video as giving it a video made it easier for people to visualize what is going on

I made these quickly in photoshop for an intro and outro segment

not much to say about these as they aren't that good, i know i could make better and probably would if given the chance, the words on "the end" is very hard to read even with the drop shadow, i probably should've made the drop shadow a lighter color

Evalutation of audiobook

This is an overview of our audiobook project i did for the last 2 weeks,

Screening results

This is our screening feedback and what i thought of it, if the criticism were fair or not and how i can improve Apon my work next time

Audio techniques -
audio worksheet

this is the worksheet of the everything i learn to do with boom poles, ADR and foley, this task was actually quite fun to complete and learn about

Sound list - ADR

this is the list of sounds we need for foley and ADR in this project, i listed everything in sections of scene, to make crossing it off the list easier, i also added asterks to the sounds that were reoccurring

scene 1

scene 2

scene 3

For this audio sector we are learning and using Foley/ADR, were doing this by adding are own sounds and dialog to a scene given to us, we have to work in groups to do it, the first things we have to do is create an audio sound list of all the audio we need to recreate and ADR in. The first task was to do a write up on the ways of recording audio, foley and ADR. we then were tasked with watching a video and picking up on what sounds we could hear from it, then being told to take what we wrote about in the audio techniques and apply it to recording audio, using the list we made as basis for what to record in groups, then editing it all together in Premiere,

Mic tests

this is a sound test we did for each mic, testing how good they are at certain lengths, we had a lot of struggles as the way we recorded the audio was very in-efficient, we didn't say where we were at the start of the audio recording, making it hard to place it in the timeline to match up. We also had the LAV mics not recording audio properly, making me and Harry have to go back out and record them in a very rushed manner, you can't notice it in the video thankfully. We also forgot to say something for the inside one, so the mic test doesn't really constitute as a mic test. The editing was fun for me, as i like doing audio, but for everyone else in my group was a struggle to do, meaning i had to help them quite a bit

ADR/fooley Finale Video

This is the finale edit of the ADR/Foley task we did, you can see the contrast between the 2 videos, the obiovus one being the amount of echo and quite awful sounding dialog, i think they match up pretty well and that people would pefer the ADR one over the original
